Catching the Downwind

Memorial Day weekend (and most holidays) bring us a much needed break at work. The hospital census usually drops and other than the people trying to get in their outpatient minor surgeries out of the way( or much needed breast implants), our surgery schedule is lighter than normal. Not this weekend. Oh no. It has been a madhouse, and continues to be.
We, the PACU or Post Anesthesia Care Unit... AKA.. Recovery Room people, are normally have a Monday through Friday gig. We are here from 0730-2300 scheduled shifts, and then on call at night and on the weekend.
Tuesday was the Full Moon, and we are still feeling the effects. Now for all of you skeptics out there, you just visit us during a full moon and you'll see, there something to it. We are busier, people don't do well, and people are just flat out CRAZY.
So this weekend, we have been staffing the PACU 24 hours since Thursday morning. That means people who have worked during the day are staying throughout the night.
One nurse did 21 hours here in our basement, no window facility.
Yesterday, I worked 1230 to 2400 and then back at 0830 to 1900. I might be going insane at this point.
So here's to the full moon! Good times.

I have officially closed down the SICU annex. This was after I took Jabba, her vent her monitor etc etc to CT scan. Now THAT was good times. Especially when we had to tape her fat rolls so she could fit into the machine. We dropped her off in SICU, went back to PACU turned off the lights, cut the phone lines and burned the phone list.

Best of luck making it through the long weekend!

Not only did Mollie have to tape fat rolls :)
but I lost half my arm in a fat roll, and let's just say Mollie got a hand cramp on Friday from holding some fat back!

Someone just sent me this link and it made me think of y'all. The only one I'd ever heard before was CBT (Chronic Biscuit Toxicity) which I thought was pretty appropriate for the current topic of conversation.
