A month or so ago, I actually sat down and drank coffee and watched part of the Today Show. This is something I rarely do on my day off (when the kids are at school) because I feel guilty and unproductive if I watch a bit of TV on my days off while my husband is at work. That is my set of issues so anyhow...
They featured a story about Allison O'Kelly, CEO of Mom Corps.
This website is very interesting, and hopefully with some media attention, it will take off with employers and moms seeking flexible employment.
This is taken directly from her website, Mom Corps:
An Industry-First Business Model for Flexible Employment
Mom Corps is the expert in the flexible employment market. Our mission is two-fold:
We provide companies direct access to a previously untapped market segment of exceptional talent - professionals who have opted out of the traditional workplace.
We enable professionals to work in their respective fields, while simultaneously meeting familial needs and responsibilities.
We execute this mission through the following services:
Staffing Services (Contingent, Project, Permanent)
Online Job Posting Board
Events and Conferences (Coffee Clubs, Own Your Life Annual Conference)
Expert Services for Candidates (Expert Resumes, Expert Coaching, Expert Training)
Corporate Consulting
I went on the website and did a few quick job searches. I only found one for a nurse, but of course, we have flexible schedules already, so it isn't really necessary. However, I did fine that there are quite a few jobs in the legal, banking, creative, PR and marketing, as well as information technology industries.
Of course, the jobs are located in the "big" cities such as New York, Atlanta, and Chicago. Hopefully the website will grow to include other smaller cities such as Cincinnati. Her whole point is to connect moms with jobs that allow them to have a career and spend time with their kids, as well as offering options for the stay-at-home mom to return to the work force, but with flexible hours. I think this is a great resource that could grow if tapped into by employers. I am a part time mom and "career" person, and I feel that I have the best of both worlds, alleviating SOME of my guilt, but not all. I feel that I have retirement contribution, salary contribution to my family, and something outside of being a mom. I also feel "protected" that if something happened to my husband or his job, that I am capable of stepping into a role that provides for myself and family. It is just peace of mind for me. I have the flexibility options with-in my line of work, and I hope this company and others will follow to offer others this wonderful option too.

Actually, you are a FULL time mom and a part-time career woman! I'll have to check out the site, since I'm close to one of the big cities. I another year, I'll have 2 kids in school full time (since we've gone to all day kindergarten.)
