YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. This is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves (and I have a few). People who think their pets are children, or better yet the ones that compare taking care of a hairy animal who eats their own poop to taking care of a human being. It takes every ounce of my being not to come at them, and as my husband can be quoted "reach in their chest and rip out their beating heart". Perhaps a little harsh. I have run into soooooo many people who have compared taking care of their dog to taking care of a child. How hard it is to find a good kennel, it is so expensive, just like day care. We call our dog sitter everyday while we are on vacation to check on the dogs. OR they call their pet their child. Mainly I find the insane people to typically be dog owners. Don't get me wrong, I have a cat, I like dogs. Oh and I hated this insane pet obsession before I had kids. We hung out with a group of people B.K. (before kids) that would sit around and talk about their dog's behavior and who had the alpha male dog. WHAT? Who cares, WHAT? You have got to be kidding me. Is your life so void of excitement that you are lowered to talk about that? (This falls shortly above sitting around discussing the lives of stars....)
So we are watching the TODAY show and one of the segments is how Pets suffer from holiday stress too. COME ON. This deserves a news segment? Yeah, just as much as dogs deserve their own doggie treat kiosk at the mall. PLEASE. Web cams at doggie daycare? WHAT? Perhaps your employer needs to give you more to do at work. Perhaps you need to give your $ to charity instead of doggie daycare. GET A CLUE people, or perhaps I should say GET A LIFE!

My cats are suffering from serious holiday stress. If by holiday stress, you mean being relegated to the cold, dark outdoors while the dog gets to sleep in our warm toasty bed. They hate Christmas. And us.
You are funny.. I thought you would appreciate my quote from my heartless husband :)
Sue told me that your husband said something like "When you have kids, your pets will SO not even matter." Or something to that effect. I'm paraphrasing.
ANYWAY, when Sue told me this, I was like "No way. Cydewayz (our dog) will still be an important member of our family." Blah blah blah. Um, yeah. I still love my dog and cat to death, but when I see stuff like the TODAY segment you mention, or holiday cards with pets featured, I just have to roll my eyes. A year ago, however, I would've probably been interested. Well, in the holiday cards anyway, not the TODAY segment. That's just a little crazed.
Yeah, I love my cat ... more than Jason does :)
But, his rank lowered as each child was born.
