With the predictions of food cost rising, I am on a mission to reduce our food costs and help transform the way we buy food. I am planning on planting a garden with the kids to grow our most consumed produce. We want carrots, tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant, and maybe some cucumber. I think it will teach all of us about gardening, and teach the kids about where food comes from.
My other plans include buying my produce locally, when I can. The local farming season is just around the corner and I have been doing research to find out the best places to buy local produce and much more.
One of the things that spawned my search for local produce was my trip to Pipkins Market. I went there to buy local foods, only to be disappointed in the lack of local produce.
Local Harvest is a great website to search for your local farmers markets. I found three that I am interested in visiting, The Wyoming Farmers Market (it's seems to be the best in writing), Hyde Park Farmers Market, and Deerfield Farmers Market. Of course, we all know and love Findlay Market, but I don't always have the time or desire to drive to Findlay.
My search for local produce also lead me to this interesting blog, cincinnatilocavore.blogspot.com. Valereee is a Cincinnati mom and writer, who leads the Cincinnati Local Foods Group with her blogging. She also provides great links for great food.
I am excited to try the markets out and find the thrill of local eating, just as Hank Hill did when he discovered the organic meat in his food co-op in Texas.

Lebanon has a really good farmer's market every Thursday morning/afternoon in downtown lebanon by the golden lamb.
And I love Pikpken's, too. I used to go there when I was in your old 'hood!
I really can't help you with finding local food in Texas, but I did have to comment on your reference to Hank Hill and the Hippie Co-Op. My favorite episode EVER!
I just realized I typed that I couldn't help you find local food in Texas. Actually I could. What I meant was couldn't help you find local food in Cincinnati. It's not real hard here being that I'm out in the country. It's even a lot cheaper and pretty darn tasty.
yeah jason... ur just like HANK HILL.. : ) or is it Bill?
I really like Findlay Market. We also drive out route 8 to McGlosson's Farm. They have great produce and the boys love getting to help pick it out.
