Last night we went to the StarLight Drive in for a family movie. Jason's company so graciously sponsored this family event, and it was fun. The kids LOVED being in chairs outside and the back of the car to watch a movie (Mr. Bean's Holiday). Jude was riveted with the Mr. Bean movie and Lily and our friend's son spent the whole time belly laughing at the slap stick humor. I really had not expected my 5 and 3 year old to be into British Comedy.. who knew? They were showing a double feature, but because we had our kiddies, we left at 10 pm.
On our way home we saw a police car turn around lights and siren. And this is how it goes:
Jason: "Do you think that is for us?" (we are in the left lane and they are really far back).
Me: "No, but you need to pull right so they can go by you.".
(We pull over only to find out they are pulling behind us).
Fabulous.
While we are sitting there waiting for the police to come up to the car I am furiously sifting through the glove compartment trying to find insurance, registration, whatever. Jason does NOT agree with my behavior.. as he has both hands on the wheel. Then I spot an officer to the right of my car staring at us.. I roll down the window and say hi. (again Jason doesn't agree with my behavior).
Officer to the right: "He is approaching on the other side".
Officer at Jason's window: "Licence and insurance"
Jason: "it is in my wallet" (Jason is giving warning that he is going to move his hands from the wheel).
Lily rolls down her window and tells the officer "hi".
Lily: "You take away bad guys?" (of course I am thinking this is scoring us good points)
Officer laughing: "Yes, I do."
The officers go to their car for what feels like a 1/2 hour.
Lily: "Officers take away bad guys?"
Parents: "yes"
Lily: "I am a good person, right?"
Parents: "of course"
Lily: "They no jailed me."
Parents laughing: "no, no jail."
End of story. TICKET. 56 in a 45. You did a turn around for that?
Thanks Batavia Township, Clermont County, for our proud parenting memory.
Thanks.

That sounds fun(movie-not ticket)Last time I was pulled over, Jack was sobbing to the policeman..."please don't take my mommy to jail.."it must have worked-no ticket for me! Next time Lily should amp up the drama a bit!
It's gotta happen sometime, right? Might as well happen when they are young! LOL! Sorry a fabulous evening was ruined by cops who had absolutely nothing else to do.
OMG! Yeah, just like Mollie and Julie said I guess it's got to happen some time! But damn those cops for not having ANYTHING else better to do than ruin a great evening out with the family!!
I hope you are printing these blogs and keeping them somewhere. These things that Lily says need to be saved!
Seriously? That is ridiculous. Way to put a damper on your fun family evening.
OMG.. I can't believe you got pulled over. that is crazy.
We did have a great time that night and Sean still asks about Jude and Lily. We'll have to do it again - without the Police of course....
