Friday morning Lily woke up with really bad croup and throughout the morning was struggling to breath. I took her to her pediatrician's office and they rushed her back and gave her a breathing treatment. She seemed to be doing better, so off we went to Children's Outpatient in Mason for X-Rays. I had Lily and Jude with me, and Jude did so good. He was so well behaved and such a good big brother. He picked out a pink lollipop with a L on it for Lily after her X-Rays. We waited in the hall for the radiologist to read the X-Rays. Lily seemed to be doing better, but she was still lethargic.
I knew it wasn't good when the Radiologist Tech told us to sit in the waiting room, they were getting my MD on the phone to talk to me.
So I did, and then I talked to her. She told me she wanted us to go to Children's Main Campus ER. The Radiologist saw a membrane that may indicate bacterial tracheitis. So due to her respiratory distress my pediatrician wanted her to go by ambulance to the ER. I am alone with Jude and Lily, freaking out on the inside. I called Jason and shed a few tears, and pulled it together. (Jason later told me that freaks him out when I cry because, I just don't cry). So, off we went in the squad, lights and sirens to Children's. The EMT/Paramedics were so nice. She was doing fine, it was just precautionary. Jude was in heaven riding fast in the ambulance. They even let him touch buttons. We pulled up to the hospital and I saw Jason waiting for us outside. I had never been so happy to see him. Thank goodness for him being there.
When we got to Children's and they had ENT surgeons see her. They actually scoped her (a lighted camera on a tube down her nose to throat) while awake. I had to hold her down. I think because she was so lethargic she didn't put up much of a fight.
Luckily she didn't have bacterial tracheitis. Just a horrible case of the croup. They toyed with admitting her for observation, but they gave her steroids and we took her home.
A very scary experience, but so minor compared to all of the other children you see at the hospital. Children's Hospital is great, all of the staff are wonderful. I feel lucky that I live in a city with such a highly rated hospital. I hope to never need there services for serious issues.
She is much better today, just attached to my hip.

My god!!!!!!!! When I read things like that it goes to show what an amzing family unit you ALL are!! WOW! Sending lots of hugs! :)
Hope she feels better soon!
Geez, between the vacation and this little adventure it sounds like you are about due for some mommy downtime here pretty soon. I hope the little lady gets better in a hurry. I spent some time living in some sort of oxygen tent at the hospital when I was about her age for the same stuff, but geez, I never got an ambulance ride out of it. You better tell her she's a lucky dog! You could also tell her that croup comes from passing too much gas in an enclosed car on a family road trip. Maybe you won't have so many air quality infractions on the next trip!
Good to know such great kids have such an awesome mamma. : )
Poor little angel. I'm sorry you had to go through all that but glad it isn't more serious. Hope she's feeling better!
I am so sorry to hear that - wow, that must have been scary. I am glad it had a good outcome.
Please give her a big kiss from her Cheesehead friends up North!
Wow, we're so glad she's doing better! I know that must have been scary!
How super frightening! I'm glad she is doing better--hope she continues to improve.
Awe, poor girl! Glad she is okay though! We do have an awesome childrens hospital!
That is scary! Hopefully she's feeling better. I love Children's Hospital. We had to stay there a couple days when Zoe was only 6-months old. The staff was wonderful! Your heart goes out to all the other children staying there with serious medical conditions. But, you know they're in good hands.
Just reading your story made me tear up. I have no idea how you were able to hold it together. I'd have been a mess.
You are right about Children's. We had a great experience earlier this year when Brady had his throat surgery.
