So I took Jude and Lily to the dentist today for their six month check up. They always tell us to take the Binky away from Lily. I am always like.. yeah yeah at 3 years we will. This is what we did to Jude. At 3 he gave up the Binky after his first dentist visit and he got to choose a toy after a week of being Binky free. Jude really at this point only chewed on his and really didn't care.
Lily is way more dependent on hers and still sucks on the Binky. Lily still has a woobie (so does Jude). So the dentist said to take it away or she will need a palate expander in the 3rd grade. Sucking your thumb or Binky reshapes the palate. Jude's corrected itself, so we hope Lily's will.
So after the dentist today, I told her no more Binky. The doctor says so. You can have a toy when you have been Binky free for a week. Whatever you want. She replies. I want a cat. A real cat, a black one. Yeah, um, no. We have a cat. I do not want two (I am not even sure I want the one I have). WHOA.
So we are at home today and it is Lily's nap time. Yeah, she isn't napping. And she is tired. She is in her bed with her woobie. No Binky. No sleep. I think she is on protest.
This is going to be a LONG process. : )

With Nicholas we did cut a little hole in the binkie to loss the suction. These last two kids of mine don't take them or suck on their thumbs, so I guess we are lucky. But there are times I think if they had a binkie it would just be easier for them. Goodluck!
We are getting ready to take the ba ba (bottle) away from Brady at night. I am pretty nervous about it. He is very attached to it.
My son was hooked on the binky. How I got him to quit was I told him we could go to the toystore and buy a toy with his binkies. So we did. He picked out a toy, we went to the cash register and I made him hand the cashier his binkies. The lady asked me if I wanted them back, and I said no. We both left the store binkiless. That day he cried a little but then got over it. Good luck!
