As I am listening to NPR (another reason to call me old) and I am infuriated. They are pushing through legislation in England that will allow gay couples to adopt children. They are allowed to foster children now, but unable to adopt. The legislation will make it illegal for adoption agencies, public and private, to discriminate based on sexual preference.
Now regardless of what you believe, the best interest should lie with the children. If a gay couple can provide a happy, loving foster home then why can't they provide a permanent home?
What really burns my ass is the Catholic Church's response to the legislation.
"Catholic adoption agencies must act against the teaching of the Church and their own consciences by being obliged in law to provide such a service." So the Catholic church is "blackmailing" the government by threatening to close the adoption agencies because they can't bear to go against their conscience or beliefs.
So they will close the agencies with out a thought to the children. Sound familiar? No thought to the children. It must be theme. Certainly there is no thought for the children who have been and continue to be molested by Catholic Staff. But the difference here is that their conscience and beliefs are not driving the decisions behind the molestation cover ups, I believe it could be the wallet. So, this just gives me one more reason to hate the institution of the Catholic Church.
Like I said before, regardless of any one's beliefs on gays adopting, you should hate this decision based on they religious hypocrisy here. Perhaps they could let the priests adopt the needy children instead of the gays, I guess they could provide a loving home for the children, that is if you want them growing up to be pedophiles.
