Being a nurse, and working are a huge part of who I am. I am a working mother and a nurse, two things I really do not talk about on my blog.
At work, we always talk about how we could write a book that would make people laugh, cry and most definitely be very scared about going into the hospital. If I could just interview nurses and take their grossest, saddest, and most hilarious stories and put them in print. Well. I think it would sell like the Nanny Diaries. Right?
Anyway, I have been thinking that I would share some stories from work so that you can have a small insight of what I do and share with my coworkers. I have to be careful about how I write because of HIPPA laws, so I will not reveal any names, times, or complete stories, but just some experiences.
This week one of my coworkers received a bruised cheek. No, she didn't run into anything. She was punched by a patient (multiple times). So you can add boxing to our list of duties.
(oh and this isn't the first time I have seen this).
A patient asked one of my coworkers to scratch his testicles for him. Yes. And then he told her he wanted them scratched a little to the left. For real.
No, she didn't do it. You just walk away.... and tell your coworkers for a good laugh.
Here is a good gross one. A patient decided it would be a good idea to spit sputum on themselves and onto the floor. Continuously.
The were aware.
Disgusting.
So just some experienced that we have. So don't hit us, spit on the floor or yourself, and certainly don't ask us to scratch your genitals.

I just had an 85 year old man who was crying "hold me" and wanted me to spoon with him. eeww
Oh Amie....how I miss those stories told during dinner time with you!!! tee hee! I am soooo sorry you guys have to go through that!
Hey it just provides humor for us!
Mollie really wanted to spoon and hold the 85 year old man!
: )
MMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Scratch his business? He couldn't reach. lol. I would have died laughing.
Oh yeah. He could reach.
I must have missed on on the "Genital Scratching" lecture in nursing school!
I must say i thought I had heard them all until I read that one! : D
I had to look up what sputum was. Is that good or bad? I was scared but actually relieved at what I found.
After giving birth, then my stint in the hospital late last year, I have MASS respect for nurses. I've even considered going to school to become one... don't know if that will ever happen. I love writing, too.
