September 12, 2006

Jude's first day of preschool, Ms. Kathy and Ms. Jean's class. It was a rainy day. Jude is off for his 12:30-3:00 day at school, Diego backpack in tow. He was very excited. Bryce would be in his class (he goes to Lynette's too) and Nate, Ali and Abby would be in the 4 day 5 year olds there at the same time! So fun. Jude has brought home so much work from school, and it all sits in a tub on the fridge. I have yet to throw any of it away. I know I have to at some point. Actually I rolled my eyes at other parents who have said this, shame on me?!!!! Oh well.
I volunteered in his class on Halloween which made me realize what a broad spectrum of kids learing capabilities ther are in the class. It was reassuring. In the letters that come home from school they talk about all of the kindergarten readiness activites, it worries me! WHAT, how ridiculous, but it does.
I hope he is doing well and will get a good send off to kindergarten. I try not to wrap myself up in comparing him to other kids, but then is it good to sometimes? Who knows. Too much pressure, I tell myself. We will see. I think we only have one conference in the spring and until then we will continue to work with scissors (apparently a much needed kindergarten skill), writing our lower and upper case letters, and phonics! I should just be thankful now, b/c I am sure when the REAL homework hits, I will be wishing for scissor and phonics!
